These two medications are identical, other than their brand name.
They are both manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk and each contain the active substance semaglutide.
Ozempic is licenced to treat type 2 diabetes and, until very recently has been used ‘off-label’ to treat obesity
Wegovy (which launched in September 2024) is licensed specifically for the treatment of obesity so Ozempic is no longer prescribed.
